1 Visions of the House of Yahweh In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down, on that same day the hand of Yahweh was upon me, and He brought me there.
2 In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and caused me to rest on a very high mountain, and on it to the souththere wasa structure like a city.
3 So He brought me there; and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a line of flax and a measuring 40:3Lit reed, so in ch rod in his hand; and he was standing in the gateway.
4 And the man spoke to me, “Son of man, see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to showitto you. Declare to the house of Israel all that you are seeing.”The East Gate
5 And behold, there was a wall on the outside of the houseof Yahwehall around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six cubits,each of which wasa 40:5A cubit was approx. 18 in. or 45 cm cubit and a 40:5A handbreadth was approx. 3 in. or7.5cm handbreadth. So he measured the thickness of the 40:5Lit building wall, one rod; and the height, one rod.
6 Then he went to the gate which faced east, went up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod 40:6Or in depth in width; and the other thresholdwasone rod 40:6Or in depth in width.
7 The guardroomwasone rod long and one rod wide; andthere werefive cubits between the guardrooms. And the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate 40:7Lit from the house facing inwardwasone rod.
8 Then he measured the porch of the gate 40:8 Lit from the house facing inward, one rod.
9 He measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its side pillars, two cubits. And the porch of the gate was 40:9Lit from the house faced inward.
10 The guardrooms of the gate toward the eastnumberedthree on each side; the three of them had the same measurement. The side pillars also had the same measurement on each side.
11 And he measured the width of the entrance of the gate, ten cubits, and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.
12 There wasa 40:12Lit border barrierwallone cubitwidein front of the guardrooms on each side; and the guardroomsweresix cubitssquareon each side.
13 He measured the gate from the roof of the one guardroom to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits fromonedoor tothedoor opposite.
14 He made the side pillars sixty cubitshigh; the gateextendedround about to the side pillar of the courtyard.
15 Fromthe front of the entrance gate to the front of the inner porch of the gatewasfifty cubits.
16 There were 40:16Or beveled inwards shuttered windowslookingtoward the guardrooms and toward their side pillars within the gate all around, and likewise for the porches. Andthere werewindows all around inside; and oneachside pillarwerepalm tree ornaments.The Outer Court Chambers
17 Then he brought me into the outer court, and behold,there werechambers and a pavement made for the court all around; thirty chambers 40:17Lit to faced the pavement.
18 The pavement (that is, the lower pavement)wasby the 40:18Lit shoulder side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates.
19 Then he measured the width from the front of the lower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner court, 40:19Approx. 150 ft. or 45 m one hundred cubits on the east and on the north.The North Gate
20 As forthe gate of the outer court which faced the north, he measured its length and its width.
21 40:21Lit Its guardrooms were 3 It had three guardrooms on each side; and its side pillars and its porches 40:21Lit were had the same measurement as the first gate. Its lengthwas 40:21Approx. 75 ft. long and37.5ft. wide or22.5m and11.25m fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
22 Its windows and its porches and its palm tree ornamentshadthe same measurements as the gate which faced toward the east; and 40:22Lit they were going up into it it was reached by seven steps, and its 40:22Or porches porchwasin front of them.
23 The inner court had a gate opposite the gate on the north as well asthe gateon the east; and he measured one hundred cubits from gate to gate.The South Gate
24 Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate toward the south; and he measured its side pillars and its porches according to 40:24Lit these measurements, so in ch those same measurements.
25 40:25Lit It The gate and its porches had windows all around like 40:25Lit these windows those other windows; the lengthwasfifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
26 There wereseven steps going up to it, and its porcheswerein front of them; and it had palm tree ornaments on its side pillars, one on each side.
27 The inner court had a gate toward the south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, one hundred cubits.The Inner Court Gates
28 Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate according to those same measurements.
29 Its guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its porcheswereaccording to those same measurements. And 40:29Lit it the gate and its porches had windows all around; itwasfifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
30 There wereporches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.
31 Its porchesweretoward the outer court; and palm tree ornamentswereon its side pillars, and its stairwayhadeight steps.
32 Then he brought me into the inner court toward the east. And he measured the gate according to those same measurements.
33 Its guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its porcheswereaccording to those same measurements. And 40:33Lit it the gate and its porches had windows all around; itwasfifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
34 Its porchesweretoward the outer court; and palm tree ornamentswereon its side pillars, on each side, and its stairwayhadeight steps.
35 Then he brought me to the north gate; and he measureditaccording to those same measurements,
36 withits guardrooms, its side pillars, and its porches. And 40:36Lit it the gate had windows all around; the lengthwasfifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
37 Its side pillarsweretoward the outer court; and palm tree ornamentswereon its side pillars on each side, and its stairway had eight steps.
38 A chamber with its doorway was by the side pillars at the gates; there they rinse the burnt offering.
39 In the porch of the gateweretwo tables on each side, on which to slaughter the burnt offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering.
40 On the outer 40:40Lit shoulder side, 40:40Lit to the one going up as one went up to the entrance of the gate toward the north,weretwo tables; and on the other 40:40Lit shoulder side of the porch of the gateweretwo tables.
41 Four tableswereon each side 40:41Lit by the shoulder of next to the gate;or, eight tables on which they slaughtersacrifices.
42 For the burnt offeringthere werefour tables of cut stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high, on which they lay the instruments with which they slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
43 The double 40:43Or ledges hooks, one handbreadth in length, were installed 40:43Or inside in the house all around; and on the tableswasthe flesh of the offering.The Chambers for the Priests
44 From the outside to the inner gate were 40:44Gr in two chambers chambers for the singers in the inner court,one ofwhich was at the 40:44Lit shoulder side of the north gate, with 40:44Lit their its front toward the south, and one at the 40:44Lit shoulder side of the 40:44As in Gr; Heb east south gate facing toward the north.
45 Then he said to me, “This is the chamber which faces toward the south,intendedfor the priests who keep the responsibility of the house;
46 but the chamber which faces toward the north is for the priests who keep the responsibility of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi come near to Yahweh to minister to Him.”
47 He measured the court, aperfectsquare, one hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the house.The Porch
48 Then he brought me to the porch of the house and measuredeachside pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side.
49 The length of the porchwastwenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and at the stairway by which it was ascendedwerecolumns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.
