The Empty Tomb Now on the Matt. 28:1–8; Mark 16:1–8; Luke 24:1–10; Acts 20:7;1 Cor. 16:2 first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the Matt. 27:60, 66; 28:2; Mark 15:46; 16:4; Luke 24:2; John 11:38 stone had been taken away from the tomb.
Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the John 21:23, 24 other disciple, John 13:23; 19:26; 21:7, 20, 24 whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”
Luke 24:12 Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.
So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.
And he, stooping down and looking in, saw John 19:40 the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.
Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,
and John 11:44 the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.
Then the John 21:23, 24 other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.
For as yet they did not know the Ps. 16:10; Acts 2:25, 31; 13:34, 35 Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.
Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.
Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord Mark 16:5 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.
And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”
Matt. 28:9; Mark 16:9 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and (Luke 24:16, 31); John 21:4 did not know that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
Jesus said to her, John 10:3 “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet Mark 16:19; Luke 24:5; Acts 1:9; 2:34–36; Eph. 4:8–10; Heb. 4:14 ascended to My Father; but go to Ps. 22:22; Matt. 18:10; Rom. 8:29; Heb. 2:11 My brethren and say to them, John 16:28; 17:11 ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to Eph. 1:17 My God and your God.’ ”
Matt. 28:10; Luke 24:10, 23 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.
The Apostles Commissioned Mark 16:14; Luke 24:36; John 14:27;1 Cor. 15:5 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for John 9:22; 19:38 fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, John 14:27; 16:33; Eph. 2:17 “Peace be with you.”
When He had said this, He Acts 1:3 showed them His hands and His side. John 16:20, 22 Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! (Matt. 28:18–20); John 17:18, 19; (2 Tim. 2:2); Heb. 3:1 As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Matt. 16:19; 18:18 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
Seeing and Believing Now Thomas, John 11:16 called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and Ps. 22:16; Zech. 12:10; 13:6;1 John 1:1 reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be Mark 16:14 unbelieving, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. 2 Cor. 5:7;1 Pet. 1:8 Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
That You May Believe And John 21:25 truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
Luke 1:4 but these are written that John 19:35;1 John 5:13 you may believe that Jesus Luke 2:11;1 John 5:1 is the Christ, the Son of God, John 3:15, 16; 5:24; (1 Pet. 1:8, 9) and that believing you may have life in His name.
