1 Psalm 40 The One Who Rescues Me For the choir director. Of David. A Psalm.I hoped 40:1Or intently earnestly for Yahweh;And He inclined to me and heard my cry for help.
2 He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the 40:2Lit mud of the mire miry clay,And He set my feet upon a high rock, He established my steps.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;Many will see and fearAnd will trust in Yahweh.
4 ¶How blessed is the man who has made Yahweh his trust,And has not 40:4Lit regarded turned to the proud, nor to those who stray into falsehood.
5 Many, O Yahweh my God, are the wondrous deeds You have done,And Your thoughts toward us;There is none to compare with You.I would declare and speak of them,Butthey are too numerous to recount.
6 ¶ 40:6Blood sacrifice Sacrifice and meal offering 40:6Or You have not taken pleasure in You have not desired;My ears You have 40:6Lit dug; or possibly pierced opened;Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
7 Then I said, “Behold, I come;In the scroll of the book it is 40:7Or prescribed for written of me.
8 “I desire to do Your will, O my God;Your law is within my inner being.”
9 ¶I proclaim good news of righteousness in the great assembly;Behold, I do not restrain my lips,O Yahweh, You know.
10 I do not conceal Your righteousness within my heart;I speak of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;I do not hide Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.
11 ¶You, O Yahweh, will not withhold Your compassion from me; 40:11Or May...guard me Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually guard me.
12 For evils beyond number have surrounded me;My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see;They are more numerous than the hairs of my head,And my heart has 40:12Lit forsaken failed me.
13 ¶Be pleased, O Yahweh, to deliver me;Make haste, O Yahweh, to help me.
14 Let those be ashamed and humiliated togetherWho seek my 40:14Or soul life to sweep it away;Let those be turned back and dishonoredWho delight in 40:14Or my calamity evilagainstme.
15 Let those be 40:15Or desolated appalled because of their shameWho say to me, “Aha, aha!”
16 Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;Let those who love Your salvation say continually,“Yahweh be magnified!”
17 As for me, I am afflicted and needy, 40:17Or The Lord is mindful May the Lord think of me.You are my help and the One who rescues me;Do not delay, O my God.
