  • 1 Restoration of Israel and Judah The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord , saying,
  • 2 “Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you.
  • 3 For behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord , ‘that Ps. 53:6; Jer. 29:14; 30:18; 32:44; Ezek. 39:25; Amos 9:14; Zeph. 3:20 I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord . Jer. 16:15; Ezek. 20:42; 36:24 ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ ”
  • 4 Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
  • 5 “For thus says the Lord : ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, Of fear, and not of peace.
  • 6 Ask now, and see, Whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins Jer. 4:31; 6:24 Like a woman in labor, And all faces turned pale?
  • 7 (Is. 2:12); Hos. 1:11; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18; Zeph. 1:14 Alas! For that day is great, Lam. 1:12; Dan. 9:12; 12:1 So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.
  • 8 ‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘ That I will break his yoke from your neck, And will burst your bonds; Foreigners shall no more enslave them.
  • 9 But they shall serve the Lord their God, And Is. 55:3; Ezek. 34:23; 37:24; Hos. 3:5 David their king, Whom I will (Luke 1:69; Acts 2:30; 13:23) raise up for them.
  • 10 ‘Therefore Is. 41:13; 43:5; 44:2; Jer. 46:27, 28 do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the Lord , ‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar, And your seed Jer. 3:18 from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, And no one shall make him afraid.
  • 11 For I am with (Is. 43:2–5) you,’ says the Lord , ‘to save you; Amos 9:8 Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, Jer. 4:27; 46:27, 28 Yet I will not make a complete end of you. But I will correct you Ps. 6:1; Is. 27:8; Jer. 10:24; 46:28 in justice, And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’
  • 12 “For thus says the Lord : 2 Chr. 36:16; Jer. 15:18 ‘Your affliction is incurable, Your wound is severe.
  • 13 There is no one to plead your cause, That you may be bound up; Jer. 8:22 You have no healing medicines.
  • 14 Jer. 22:20, 22; Lam. 1:2 All your lovers have forgotten you; They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound Job 13:24; 16:9; 19:11 of an enemy, With the chastisement Job 30:21 of a cruel one, For the multitude of your iniquities, Jer. 5:6 Because your sins have increased.
  • 15 Why Jer. 15:18 do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.
  • 16 ‘Therefore all those who devour you Ex. 23:22; Is. 41:11; Jer. 10:25 shall be devoured; And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into Is. 14:2; Joel 3:8 captivity; Those who plunder you shall become Is. 33:1; Ezek. 39:10 plunder, And all who prey upon you I will make a Jer. 2:3 prey.
  • 17 Ex. 15:26; Ps. 107:20; Is. 30:26; Jer. 33:6 For I will restore health to you And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord , ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.” ’
  • 18 “Thus says the Lord : ‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, And Ps. 102:13 have mercy on his dwelling places; The city shall be built upon its own mound, And the palace shall remain according to its own plan.
  • 19 Then Ps. 126:1, 2; Is. 51:11; Jer. 31:4; Zeph. 3:14 out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; Is. 49:19–21; Jer. 23:3; 33:22; Zech. 10:8 I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
  • 20 Their children also shall be Is. 1:26 as before, And their congregation shall be established before Me; And I will punish all who oppress them.
  • 21 Their nobles shall be from among them, Gen. 49:10 And their governor shall come from their midst; Then I will Num. 16:5; Ps. 65:4 cause him to draw near, And he shall approach Me; For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord .
  • 22 ‘You shall be Ex. 6:7; Jer. 32:38; Ezek. 36:28; Hos. 2:23; Zech. 13:9 My people, And I will be your God.’ ”
  • 23 Behold, the Jer. 23:19, 20; 25:32 whirlwind of the Lord Goes forth with fury, A continuing whirlwind; It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
  • 24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it, And until He has performed the intents of His heart. Gen. 49:1 In the latter days you will consider it.
