  • 1 A man who hardenshisneck after much reproofWill suddenly be broken 29:1Lit and there is no healing beyond healing.
  • 2 When the righteous 29:2Or become great increase, the people are glad,But when a wicked man rules, people groan.
  • 3 A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad,But he who befriends harlots destroyshiswealth.
  • 4 By justice the king causes the land to stand,But a man of bribes tears it down.
  • 5 A man who flatters his neighborIs spreading a net for his steps.
  • 6 By transgression an evil man is ensnared,But the righteous sings with joy and is glad.
  • 7 The righteous knows the cause of the poor,The wicked does not understandthatknowledge.
  • 8 Scoffers 29:8Lit breathe out set a city aflame,But wise men turn away anger.
  • 9 When a wise man is brought into judgment with a man who is an ignorant fool, 29:9Lit He Theignorant foolboth rages and laughs, and there is no rest.
  • 10 Men of bloodshed hate the blameless,But the upright seekthe well-being ofhis soul.
  • 11 A fool 29:11Lit sends forth all his spirit lets out all of his spirit,But a wise man holds it back.
  • 12 Ifa ruler pays attention to a lying word,All his ministersbecomewicked.
  • 13 The poor man and the oppressor meet togetherin this—Yahweh gives light to the eyes of both.
  • 14 If a king judges the poor with truth,His throne will be established forever.
  • 15 The rod and reproof give wisdom,But a child 29:15Lit set loose leftto himselfbrings shame to his mother.
  • 16 When the wicked 29:16Or become great increase, transgression increases;But the righteous will see their fall.
  • 17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest;And he will give delight to your soul.
  • 18 Where there is no 29:18Or revelation vision, the people are out of control,But how blessed is he who keeps the law.
  • 19 A slave will not be corrected by wordsalone;For though he understands, there will be no answer.
  • 20 Do you behold a man who is hasty in his words?There is more hope for a fool than for him.
  • 21 He who pampers his slave from childhoodWill in the end find him to be 29:21Or a son arrogant.
  • 22 An angry man stirs up strife,And a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.
  • 23 A man’s lofty pride will bring him low,But a lowly spirit will take hold of glory.
  • 24 He who 29:24Or partners dividesthe spoilwith a thief hates his own soul;He hears the oath but declares nothing.
  • 25 Trembling before man 29:25Lit gives brings a snare,But he who trusts in Yahweh will be set securely on high.
  • 26 Many seek the face of a ruler,But justice for mancomesfrom Yahweh.
  • 27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous,And he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
